Lesson Title: Butterflies
Assignment:
   
The lesson plan will outline what the student should be learning and how they are to portray that knowledge to the instructor.
Objective:
    
The objective of this lesson is to teach students basic facts about butterflies that they may not have known previous to this lesson. Students             are also encouraged to persue their study of butterflies in a more comprehensive study and then asked to portray thier learning in a complete                     package. The activities were aslo designed in order to help the child better understand the material and to encourage them to look beyond this             lesson and find even more facts through other resources.
Preparation for the Lesson:
    
By including and emphasizing books on butterfies in the class library students are introduced to the lesson and will already begin to become                     familiar with some basic facts. A short list of possible teacher resources, such as videos, books, and websites, can be found in the "resource"                     portion of this lesson.
Instruction:
    
Introduce the lesson by first either reading a book about butterflies to the class or by watching a movie about butterflies.

         Post instrutions next to the computer explaining how to get to this site and how to correctly utilize the information providided. You may also                   want to give the class a short demonstration showing the information that is posted.
           
         Introduce the website by showing the class the "Fun Facts" page and instructing them to read the material carefully and to pay close attention              to the purple activities. Tell the students that they are to completely the activities as they are presented to the student and that they may do                  their research for the major activity but once finished they much return to their desk to finish the drawing and writing portion of the activity in                     order to allow other students to completely the lesson.

         Students may view the website in apporpriate pairs but the assignments are to accomplished independantly unless instructed differently.

         While specified pair is on the computer other students should also be engaed in activited to help them learn about butterflies. These                                      alternative projects may consist of a short video, work sheets, or artistic activities.

This lesson is in alignment with the state of Maine's Learning Results for Science and Technology for elementary school learners.
